URGENT SUBSTACK: JAMES CLEVERLY’s SEVEN DEADLY SINS
LYING, NAIVETE, ARROGANCE, COWARDICE, POVERTY OF AMBITION, NHS CLICHES, BREXIT SELL OUT

This is an urgent Substack. First up: a confession. I just can’t get excited by the Tory leadership contest. The utterly dismal Party Conference theme - “Review and Rebuild”- sounded like a line from the troubleshooting section of a Lego set. I’m glad I didn’t go: it was like watching a 1970s TV.
All the same, what’s happening in the Conservative Party could not be more important to the future of this country, and so I have forced myself to watch the leadership contenders make their pitches. With Tom Tugendhat now out of the picture, the race is now between two figures from the right of the party (Robert Jenrick and Kemi Badernoch) and James Cleverly, who is now being talked up as the man to beat.
With that in mind, this is an urgent warning to Tory party members who might be tempted to vote for Cleverly today and at the next round.
By the way, I get it. I like the man. He’s good company; he’s a good communicator; and he looks the part. I have heard him navigating difficult media interviews on numerous occasions, and rarely found myself wanting to shout at the radio. Unlike the prime minister, he is never robotic. The best line from his conference speech?
“I want to get the heel of the state off of your neck. Get their noses out of your business and get their hands out of your pocket.”
More rhetoric like that, and I might have almost have fallen for his schtick. That would be a mistake. For James Cleverly is guilty of many things…..
Reform UK won’t thank me for the following, because a Cleverly leadership plays right into their hands. However, the future of our country is at stake.
So here’s a WARNING to Tory party members who might be tempted to vote for him today and at the next round. James Cleverly is guilty of at least SEVEN DEADLY SINS. Together, these should disqualify him from ever running this country.
DEAR JAMES: YOU STAND CHARGED WITH THE FOLLOWING:
